Definition of Alder
Soft and porous hardwood that produces reddish-white to reddish-brown wood.
Its most useful quality is its durability, given that it can withstand rotting when exposed to water. As a result, it’s mostly used in sauna interiors including the benches and floor.
Moreover, it’s a good insulator because it has low thermal conductivity.
Low thermal conductivity here means that heat passes slowly through the wood, so the wood doesn’t get very hot. Additionally, once it gets warm it doesn’t lose that heat quickly.
