Definition of Tempered Glass Door

A door made of toughened glass that’s highly resistant to damage.

It’s usually made by heating the glass to more than 600℉ and then quickly cooled using cold air blasts.

Because of this, the glass exterior cools down more rapidly than the interior. The glass surface produces an increased thickness of compressive force while the interior remains in a state of tension, pulled away from the outer surface layer.

For the tempered glass on a traditional sauna to break, one would need to get through the exterior which can resist compression.

Such a glass door can withstand the high temperatures of the sauna environment in a Drammen Traditional Sauna which heats to 195℉.

In case the glass breaks, it breaks into thousands of small, non-sharp pieces that can’t cause serious injuries.
