How the EMF Tiers Compare
| EMF tier | Manufacturer rating | Brands we carry |
|---|---|---|
| Low EMF | 5–10 mG | Standard Dynamic and Maxxus models; SunRay |
| Ultra Low EMF | 3–5 mG | Dynamic Elite, Maxxus S-Line Elite |
| Near Zero EMF | Under 3 mG | Golden Designs, Dynamic and Maxxus near zero and full spectrum models, Finnmark, Sun Home |
How Infrared Sauna EMF Is Measured
EMF from a sauna's heating panels is measured in milligauss (mG), and it drops quickly with distance. Brands don't all measure the same way: some test right at the heater, some a few inches away, and some at the seated position. When you compare saunas, ask for the test report and check where the reading was taken. For more, read the truth about EMF and infrared saunas.
Published EMF Results for the Brands in This Collection
| Brand | Published EMF | Where it was measured |
|---|---|---|
| Sun Home (Luminar) | 0.5 mG, tested by Vitatech Electromagnetics (January 2025) | Seated position |
| Finnmark | Highest reading 1.17 mG (Spectrum Plus heater); under 0.6 mG (Spectrum Carbon heater), tested by VPE Test Lab | At the heater panel |
| Golden Designs | Under 3 mG (manufacturer rating) | 2–3 inches from the heater |
| Dynamic and Maxxus | Under 3 mG (manufacturer rating) | Manufacturer rating |
Near Zero EMF Sauna FAQs
What does near zero EMF mean?
For the brands we carry, near zero EMF means heating panels rated under 3 mG, the lowest of the three EMF tiers.
What is the lowest EMF infrared sauna?
Of the saunas we carry, Sun Home's Luminar has the lowest published seated reading at 0.5 mG. Finnmark's heaters measured 1.17 mG or less at the heater itself.
Are near zero EMF saunas full spectrum?
Most of them are. Golden Designs Reserve, Finnmark, Sun Home and many Dynamic and Maxxus near zero models combine far infrared panels with near infrared elements. Browse all full spectrum infrared saunas.
Are these EMF terms regulated?
No. Any brand can call its sauna "near zero EMF," so the published test result and where it was measured matter more than the label.
Do near zero EMF saunas cost more?
Usually, yes. Near zero models generally cost more than the low and ultra low versions of the same size. If price matters most, see our low EMF and ultra low EMF saunas.
